Having started with a Lenz Compact I have now moved up to an EasyDCC system about 21 months ago. I am happy to recommend both systems (the compact as a starter, EasyDCC as a more advanced system ). The EasyDCC system has 2 built in throttles and plain english on the display. As of early 2006 I moved on to the NCE Power Cab, another excellent system
I have installed decoders in Z, N, H0, 00 and On30 locos of American, European and British prototypes.
Installing a DCC decoder will not improve a poorly running DC locomotive. It is important therefore that a loco should be running at its best under ordinary DC before installing a decoder. DC loco tune up is not included in the charges listed for installation as it is something that most modellers can do for themselves. I will however check the running of the loco before installing the decoder.
What's included:- decoder installation, minor modification of existing frames or fitting replacement frames, check installation, programme decoder with two or four digit loco address.
Not included - cost of loco, cost of decoder, cost of any additional parts (leds, lights, resistors, replacement frames, etc.), major modification of frames (rarely required), speakers for sound installations, fitting of additional parts other than replacement frames, installation of additional lights such as ditch lights etc, postage for return of loco.
I recommend Lenz decoders, because I have found them reliable and they have the best warranty out there. However if you prefer a different make I am happy to fit whatever you require. Most Plug and Play decoders are Digitrax and I normally carry a small selection and can usually do these installations within 7 days or so.
From 1st April 2003 my charges for decoder installations will be as follows:-
Plug and Play installations from £10 per installation
Hard Wire installations from £15 per installation
Sound installations from £25 per installation
