Z Scale GP35 installation

Microtrains excellent Z scale GP35 can be fitted with a Digitrax DZ123MO plug and play decoder. However because Digitrax mounted the LEDs on top of the board you can not get the body back on the loco if you follow their instructions.

One of the fixes for this is to mount the board upside down, reattaching the M/T springs between the board and the motor contacts and then to modify the appropriate CVs. A second method involves mounting the board the correct way up and shaving the LEDs.

My method involves mounting the board upside down and attaching wires from the board to the motor contacts. I attached a wire from the left side board contact to the right hand motor contact and another from the right side board contact to the left hand motor contact. The wires cross over the chassis under the board. I also added a piece of shrink tubing to the rear light so that it does not show through the body. It is also necessary to enlarge the slots on the board as they don’t quite line up with the chassis pillars.
